OUR FOUNDER
From Hunger To Harvest, Inc. was founded in June, 2002, by Mr. Abraham H. Nyei. Mr. Nyei has led a life of service and distinction in the field of humanitarian effort for over Thirty Years. After many years of humanitarian services and research into the urgent problems created by abject poverty, illiteracy, diseases, starvation, and civil conflicts around the world, Mr. Nyei felt an urgent need to create an organization which could address these needs, worldwide.
The idea of establishing a foundation to help alleviate the suffering of the victims of civil conflicts came about during Mr. Nyei’s five-nation tour in Africa, where he observed “humanitarian and catastrophic” conditions in the refugees and displacement camps he had visited. In an emotional letter to a friend, Mr. Nyei wrote, “As I endeavor to scribble these words to you, my Friend, I reminisce with sadness a visit I made along with my uncle about 40 years ago to remote rural villages in Liberia. I was just 13, but cannot forget the squalor, mass poverty and deprivation that still remains, hash and overwhelmingly intractable. Again, when I recently visited the refugees’ camps in the countries I had previously visited; I saw similar gruesome images of death that ignited a painful memory, valuable fettered human potentials, degradation and despair.” Mr. Nyei concluded, “Without interference, the magnitude of these financial and humanitarian emergencies will prove disastrous, and will leave these countries vulnerable to terrorism, in the years to come.” To help eradicate these conditions, Mr. Nyei met with his spiritual advisor Rev. Dr. Sheldon R. Shipman; Senior Pastor of Greenville Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church Charlotte, N.C. for his advice. After the meeting, Mr. Nyei was encouraged and contacted the Department State of North Carolina and registered the name, From Hunger To Harvest, Inc. (FHTH), as a Not for Profit, public charity.
OUR BEGINNINGS
At FHTH, we stand ready to campaign against hunger, educate the people, to encourage the strengthening of investment in the agricultural infrastructure, and promote regional trade by improving market infrastructure of the affected areas, with a goal to help the people in need help themselves.
Over the years, with the establishment of FHTH Literacy Programs in Liberia, we have made significant gains and contributed significantly to the post-war recovery of Liberia. We started a school; an educational program with small number of students; with the passage of time enrolment in the program has consistently grown upward to more than 755 students each year, in all categories.
The school has been in the vanguard assisting the national government of Liberia increase literacy and training of young adults, ex-combatants, women and children who wish to attend regular grade school. Consequently, we have experienced an up surge in enrolment and demand for these educational and training services. Great efforts have been placed on improving the quality of these services over the years and the results have been remarkable.
The initial program was intended for the residents of the Monrovia community. Soon thereafter, word of the program got around and more and more people developed interest in the adult literacy program. Interest in the program has since spread throughout the region. Those completing the program are now attending higher institutions of learning. This is the result of our dedicated teaching staff. Initially, the School operated kindergarten to six (6) grade classes. In the last eleven years, we have added classes up to the 12th grade level.
From Hunger to Harvest’s adult literacy program is blessed with individuals who have at times operated in the spirit of volunteerism and sacrifices for the common good.

As FHTH works to “Help People in Need Help Themselves”, we are empowering the local communities through Local Cooperative Committees (LCCs) in income-generating projects, such as rice farming, soap making, cloth tie-dyeing, tailoring etc. These initiatives enable communities to support local schools, clinics, and more importantly to take control of their own destiny. Training of the local people and the repatriation of trained refugees also help strengthens the fabric of rural communities’ capacity to provide quality social services in the years ahead.
We team up with grassroots organizations, private, public and international sectors to implement creative and innovative solutions to combat starvation, homelessness, violence, poverty, disease, illiteracy, and unemployment.
To continue these invaluable services and to extend the benefits offered by the FHTH’S Adult Literacy and vocational training Programs into the rural areas of Africa, we need your financial and material supports.
